About Us

WHY OUR SHAKESPEARE IS DIFFERENT. Shakespeare's language is timeless; unfortunately, many contemporary productions still rely on archaic and problematic interpretations of the plotlines. In order to speak directly to a current audience, Match: Lit reworks Shakespeare's texts by cutting and merging characters and reassigning some language between them to better serve the story. From this, the characters become more multi-faceted and complex, and the actors tackling these roles sharpen their storytelling skills, giving our audiences updated versions of the same classics we've always known and loved (...or hated!).

Focusing on the messages of personal connection via inclusivity and empathy in the arts, Match: Lit uses Shakespeare as a vehicle to communicate not only to audiences, but also to students of all ages, and in 2019 proudly launched its diverse offerings of Classes & Workshops.

OUR HISTORY. Match: Lit was conceived in August 2015 and officially came to life in October of that same year with the opening of its inaugural mainstage production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Since then, they have accumulated four more mainstages alongside several other endeavors. In 2018, their readings became a more present entity in the form of tavern performance with their BARDcore series, which allows Match: Lit to stay in touch with their artist and audience friends throughout the year. In October 2020, they go global with their first online series of original pieces: The Screenlit Series.
