Our Mission
Match: Lit’s mission is to promote positive community engagement and to foster artistic integration:
To cultivate a supportive, present, and passionate artistic community through our monthly BARDcore reading series and an annual mainstage production, while also encouraging the support of and the participation in productions throughout New York City;
To educate New York City’s classical artists with regular workshops, masterclasses, and weekly studio training rooted in humanity’s great talent of storytelling—all while highlighting the rich language, the complex themes, and the historical and cultural relevance of Shakespeare’s writing;
To provide artistic opportunities for a new, diverse generation of New York City performing artistic collaborators, both emerging and experienced, to create stunning work from a respected canon to spark passion, conversation, and execution of Shakespeare’s plays.
Our world is one in which a spirited community regularly assembles to experience a diverse array of plays from Shakespeare’s canon; where a new generation of classical artists hones their storytelling skills to better engage their audiences; and where those actors and audience come together to perform and experience beautiful theatre.
